Andy Rourke, the highly acclaimed bassist for the band The Smiths, has passed away at the age of 59, as confirmed by The Smiths.

Guitarist Johnny Marr posted a tweet too, confirming the news of Rourke’s demise and said, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Rourke after a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer. Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul by those who knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music fans. We request privacy at this sad time”

Cause of death-

As confirmed by Guitarist Johnny Marr, Rourke was suffering from pancreatic cancer which eventually became the reason for his death.

The group became a huge hit in the ’80s and revived rock, with major hits including Girlfriend in a Coma, and Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now. Rourke had a lot of arguments among the band regarding earnings and royalties in 1989 and filed for bankruptcy in 1999.
