Angela Bassett was clearly “disappointed” when Jamie Lee Curtis beat her to win the Best Supporting Actress Award at Oscars 2023. A video of the 64-year-old actor’s reaction to Curtis winning the award has gone viral on social media. After the presenters announced Curtis as the winner, all the nominees, except Bassett, clapped. Fans noticed the “disappointment” on Bassett’s face.

Meanwhile, several fans took to Twitter to slam the Oscars for giving the award to Curtis.

“It was OBVIOUS this was Angela Bassett’ moment to win this Oscar and I’m still in disbelief how Jamie Lee Curtis beat Angela in this category !! I’m hurt for Angela,” one person tweeted.

“Guess Oscars don’t know when to give a performance award and lifetime achievement award. ANGELA BASSETT WAS ROBBED!” another user tweeted.

Jamie Lee Curtis won the award for the superhero comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once. Other nominees were The Banshees of Inisherin’s Kerry Condon, The Whale’s Hong Chau, and her Everything Everywhere All at Once costar Stephanie Hsu.

The 64-year-old thanked all the people behind the film.

“The entire group of artists who made this movie – we just won an Oscar!,” she said.

“To all of the people who have supported the genre movies that I have made for all of these years. The thousands and hundreds and thousands of people, we just won an Oscar, together! “

She also thanked her husband Christopher Guest and “our daughters, Annie and Ruby [and] my sister Kelly” in her acceptance speech.

“I just won an Oscar!” she concluded before walking off the stage.
