The political temperature is high across the four states and the UT of Puducherry where counting of votes for Assembly polls is underway. While Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress is set to retain West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to win Assam. The Opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is leading in Tamil Nadu and the ruling LDF is close to securing another term in Kerala. In the UT of Puducherry, former CM N Rangasamy-led All India NR Congress is leading.

Nayak

If one speaks about India’s leading political dramas, it’s almost impossible that actors Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri-starrer %u2018Nayak%u2019 don’t feature in the list.

This 2001 film traces the journey of a fierce journalist, Shivaji Rao Gaekwad (played by Anil Kapoor), who gets the opportunity to become a one-day CM following a tense interview with the actual CM and corrupt politician Balraj Chauhan (played by Puri).

Paatal Lok

This 2020 gem is about the cat and mouse chase between a cop Hathiram Chaudhary (played by Jaideep Ahlawat) and a criminal Hathoda Tyagi (played by Abhishek Banerjee), but only on the surface. Beneath it, it tells the story of the ploy of two political leaders, who use cops, to hide their corrupt deeds from the media and the common people. 

Gangs of Wasseypur

 

This two-part gem by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap delves deep into the worlds of crime and politics and the one that includes the intermingling of the two. The revenge saga that extends to three generations focuses on the coal mafia in Bihar’s Dhanbad (now in Jharkhand) and the fierce power tussle there.

The film had an amazing cast, which included Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Piyush Mishra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Viineet Kumar Singh, Pankaj Tripathi and Tigmanshu Dhulia in prominent roles.

Tandav

This 2020 web series is set in the national capital and delves into what goes behind closed doors in the world of power and politics. It featured Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia in leading roles.

Queen

With the counting of votes for the Tamil Nadu elections currently underway, one shouldn’t miss the Ramya Krishnan-starrer film %u2018Queen%u2019. It traces the life of Shakti Seshadri, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the late Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa.

It chronicles the character’s journey from being from a weak financial background, to becoming a state topper, to becoming a superstar and finally becoming the youngest CM of her state.
