The 74th British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) on Sunday honoured ‘Nomadland’ with the best film award.

‘Nomadland’ has been directed by Chloe Zhao. It was one of the five nominations in the category announced in March. While ‘The Father’, ‘The Mauritanian’, ‘Nomadland’, ‘Promising Young Woman’ and ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’ posed a difficult competition, the jury chose the Nomadland as the winner.

Hosted by Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary, the BAFTA Film Awards were conducted over two days – April 10 and 11 – in a virtual ceremony. After receiving heavy criticism last year for their lack of diversity and failure to nominate a single actor of colour, BAFTA introduced more than 120 changes to its campaigning, membership and voting systems.
