Barbara Young, the veteran TV actor known for playing Doreen Fenwick on the ITV soap, died in hospital surrounded by her family on April 27. Her daughter and actor Liza Pullman confirmed her mother’s death in a long statement on Facebook earlier today. 

Pulman wrote, “Just to let people know, my beautiful, brilliant, opinionated, loud, warm-hearted, talented and singular mother died on Thursday night at 10.30pm.”

“My sister Cory and I were by her hospital bed for 30 hours straight and in the end, as is so often the case, she slipped away in our absence with a beautiful nurse called Mercy (you couldn’t write it) caring for her,” she added.

Cause of death

Barbara’s cause of death has not yet been disclosed but she had been ill in Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge during her last days.

Barbara Young was born on February 9, 1931, in Brighouse, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. She was 92 years old.

Career

Barbara Young featured in more than 60 films throughout her career. The actor was best known for her role as Doreen Fenwick in 2006-2007 in Coronation Street.

She appeared on Channel 5 show Family Affairs for 6 years between 1999 and 2005. She also starred in the classic comedy series Last of the Summer from 2008-2010. 

Young was a regular face on television throughout her career with roles in shows including Dempsey and Makepeace, Lovejoy, and The Gentle Touch.

Husband Jack Pulman

Barbara Young was previously married to television screenwriter Jack Pulman, Pulman died on May 20, 1979, in London, United Kingdom. 

Family

Young and Pulman had two daughters Liza Pulman and Cory Pulman. Cory is an actor known for playing Kathleen Dudman in the Doctor Who television story The Curse of Fenric. Liza Pulman is a singer and actor.
