Playback singer Anuradha Paudwal has been instrumental in giving some of the popular tracks from 90s including “Bahut pyar karte hain” from Saajan, “Mujhe neend na aaye” from Dil, “Nazar ke saamne” from Aashiqui, and “Hum tere bin kahin reh pahi pate” from Sadak . The veteran artist, who is now leading her life away from playback singing from Bollywood films, says there was certain charm and beauty about the original song, which no remixes can justify.
In a telephonic conversation, she expressed her thoughts on how the trend of taking up old songs in today’s film is a step to cash in on the already existing popularity.
“To be very honest the beauty that went on in the original one is different. Now they are using the same song because of the already existing popularity… they take one line from the hit song and use it for the popularity. Rest they put whatever they want to thinking that it will entertain today’s population. However, the the fact remains that whatever they are adding in the song has no sustainability and probably that is the reason why they think adding that one line from old number will work,” she told Opoyi.
The singer is not just a proud recipient of the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award but is also the winner of the National Film Award. She has also sung for films like ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye , Karz and Hero.
Talking more about the remixes, she said, “Songs like ‘Aaj fir tumpe pyar aaya hai’ and ‘Dheere dheere se’ are emotional numbers and were given appropriate music keeping in mind the mood when it was recorded. They can’t be soft numbers,” she said.
Paudwal, who has also given some great devotional tracks, says that music is a science.
“There is mathematics in that,” she said and added, “You can make a song popular for 24 hours or 48 hours by adding chaos in it but where is the sustainability. Songs of previous time had melody and you can’t mix contrast colours to one thing just to appeal bunch fool of people.
“If they ( makers of remixes) had so much confidence in their music than why can’t they make completely new song. Why they had to take old songs?”
