Legendary Hollywood actor Betty White died on Friday just weeks before her 100th birthday, which would have taken place on January 17.

Confirming her death, White’s agent Jeff Witjas told PEOPLE, “Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever. I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”

White’s witty style gave life to several quirky characters, including the oddball Rose Nylund in “The Golden Girls” and the outspoken caretaker on “Hot In Cleveland.” She also drew laughs with occasional salty one-liners in the 2009 comedy “The Proposal” and the horror spoof “Lake Placid.” By popular demand, she hosted “Saturday Night Live” in 2011.

Her net worth is estimated to be approximately $75 million.

Following her death, several celebrities paid tributes to her on social media. Actor Ryan Reynold tweeted, “The world looks different now. She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.”
