Passion of the Christ star Jim Caviezel has confirmed that a Mel Gibson is still working on a sequel to the controversial 2004 film. Titled ‘Resurrection’ the movie is co-authored by Braveheart writer, Randall Wallace.

“Mel Gibson just sent me the third picture, the third draft. It’s coming. It’s called The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection. It’s going to be the biggest film in world history,” Caviezel said. The film which follows Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection has been in development since 2016.

One of the biggest hits of Mel Gibson, Passion of the Christ yielded $612 million worldwide against its $30 million production budget.

It had Jim Caviezel as Jesus of Nazareth, Maia Morgenstern as the Virgin Mary, and Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene. The movie went on to become seventh highest-grossing title domestically at the end of its theatrical run.

It had also been controversial for promoting alleged antisemitism. It was also called out for the portrayal of extreme violence which was both ‘distracting and excessive’ according to critics.

Gibson currently stars in three upcoming feature films: the Tim Kirkby-directed action/thriller Last Looks, the Eshom and Ian Nelms-directed comedy Fatman and the Joe Carnahan-directed sci-fi action/thriller Boss Level.
