Although there are many dialogues by Amitabh Bachchan that transcend time and remain in the heart of his fans, there are several others that were similar but got lost in the way. As he turns 79 today, here’s a roundup of his less popular, but equally impactful film dialogues.

Sarkar 3 (2017)

Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar 3 got Amitabh Bachchan back on the screen with his dark and suave avatar. It is safe to say that he was loved as the man with strong connections in the dark underbelly of Mumbai. Another thing in the setup that left a massive impact was his dialogue that goes like, “Har achchai ki koi nirdharit kimaat hoti hai. Vo chahe paisa ho, gyhan ho,ya phir..Dard…Aur dard ki kemaat chukani padti hai.” (Every good deed requires a price. Be it money, knowledge or pain. You have to pay the value of pain.)

Cheeni Kum (2007)

Bringing back his romantic side, Cheeni Kum was loved by his fans. The onscreen pairing of Tabu and Amitabh, it even had a dash of comedy. The film explored different nuances of love and although there are many dialogues in the film worth remembering, this one takes the cake, “Shaadi woh keemat hai joh ek aadmi sex ke liye chukata hai … sex woh keemat hai joh ek aurat shaadi ke liye chukati hai.” (Marriage is the price a man pays to have sex. Sex is the price, a woman pays to get married).

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998)

One of the best films starring the comedy duo of Amitabh and Govinda, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, was a perfect package that could make you roll on the floor with laughter. Had it not been for the loud storyline and so much action and comedy, there was a dialogue that could have stayed for long. It was when Amitabh Bachchan says, “Khuda ke karam se, ishwar ki krupa se aur public ki demand se…”(By God’s grace, by God’s kindness and by public’s demand)

English Vinglish (2012)

Although it was just a cameo for him, Amitabh managed to etch himself in the audiences’ memories. His words gave warmth to Sridevi’s character, who was on her first international flight. Bachchan said to her, “Pehli baar … ek hi baar aata hai.(First time, only happens once).” Deep but true.

Majboor (1974)

Ravi Tandon’s 1974 film ‘Majboor’ was the perfect combination of incredible cast, good story and strong dialogues. Amitabh played the role of a man suffering from brain tumour and engaging with wrong guys to save himself. His dialogue, “Itni aasani se tujhe maut nahi aane waali … tujhe toh jail ki kali kothri mein maut ka intezaar karna padega (You won’t die to easily. You will have to wait for death in the dark dungeons of the the jail.),” stole the show.
