Singer Britney Spears’ documentary, ‘Framing Britney’ was released by the New York times on Thursday, following which her former boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, is facing major backlash over his past treatment of Spears.

While the documentary focuses on the #FreeBritney movement and her and her conservatorship, a segment of the doc that re-examined her relationship with Timberlake, which lasted from 1998 to 2002.

According to the film, Timberlake had led a narrative that Spears had cheated on him, which resulted in a severe public blowback.

NYT critic at large Wesley Morris says in the film, “The way that people treated her, to be very high school about it, was like she was the school slut and he was the quarterback.”

According to Morris, Timberlake used his music video for “Cry Me a River” to place blame on Spears. Four years after their breakup, Timberlake released another diss track, “What Goes Around… Comes Around,” at a time when Spears was seen struggling with her second divorce and sobriety.

Fans have now reflected on how Spears was treated poorly throughout her career.

A fan tweeted, “Britney Spears had to go through so much, be asked so many misogynistic questions, followed and hounded by paparazzi at almost every second of the day and we wonder why Britney had a few issues. She’s human. The way the world treated Britney Spears was disgusting. Period.”
