Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the few shows that has managed to create characters who are funny, relatable, flawed, and lovable all at the same time.

Jake is one of the best characters on the show because he is funny, kind, smart, and a little silly at times.

Aside from his character, fans adore him for a variety of reasons, ranging from his relationships and interactions with the other characters to the way his character is written. Here are the five things fans love about Jake:

The Way He Owns Up To His Mistakes

Jake has made mistakes at work that have negatively affected his coworkers on more than one occasion. When he made a reckless arrest in the first season of “48 Hours,” it cost everyone else their weekend as they scrambled for evidence to back up the charges.

Although he made jokes about it, he genuinely felt bad, admitted his error, and worked extra hard to correct it.

His Dynamic With Holt

Jake and Holt had a lot of disagreements in season one. Holt was determined to turn Jake into a serious worker who did his job professionally, but Jake was adamant about keeping his playful ways. Despite their rocky start, they developed a good relationship with Holt as a father figure over the course of the show.

He’s Entertaining & Likable

It’s not often that a show creates a well-balanced character with both positive and negative traits. The majority of the time, they are either too perfect or unbearable. However, Jake’s flaws make him a better person, more likeable and entertaining to watch.

The Way He’s Well-Written

Jake has so many qualities to admire, even his flaws. Many TV shows try to make their characters relatable by giving them flaws, but they end up making them unlikable, insufferable, or unbearable.

However, for Jake, the show managed to balance everything right. Unlike most male characters, he is not arrogant or cold. Debt, insecurity, and loneliness are all flaws that the audience can relate to. Not only that, but he grows out of his flaws and develops as a character, as any well-written character should.

His Healthy Relationship With Amy

Despite their best efforts, many sitcoms fall into the pattern of clichés when it comes to the characters’ love stories. When it came to Amy and Jake’s relationship, Brooklyn Nine-Nine successfully avoided these tropes.

When the characters get together, none of their qualities are compromised, and aside from the controversial and divisive baby debate, they have one of the best relationships portrayed on television.
