Former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner sparked outrage on social media on Monday for backing a vote by sports federation FINA that bans Trans women from taking part in swimming events.

“It worked! I took a lot of heat – but what’s fair is fair! If you go through male puberty you should not be able to take medals away from females. Period,” Jenner wrote on Twitter on Sunday moments after the governing body announced its vote.

FINA voted to ban transgender sportspersons from women’s competitive events. Out of 152 members, over 100 were in favor of the policy, which demands transgender athletes to prove that “they have not experienced any part of male puberty beyond Tanner Stage 2 or before age 12, whichever is later.”

“We have to protect the rights of our athletes to compete, but we also have to protect competitive fairness at our events, especially the women’s category at FINA competitions,” Husain Al-Musallam, the president of FINA, said in a statement, according to the Los Angeles Blade.

FINA has stated that the policy is necessary in order to create fair eligibility criteria due to the “performance gap” that occurs in males and females during adolescence.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time that Jenner has bashed Trans sportspersons. Earlier this year, Jenner slammed Trans athlete Lia Thomas, who represented the Penn Quakers in women’s competitions.

“All of this woke world that we are living in right now is not working. I feel sorry for the other athletes that are out there, especially at Penn or anybody she’s competing against, because in the woke world, you’ve got to say, ‘Oh, my gosh, this is great,’ No, it’s not,” Jenner said.
