Singers Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes called it quits after two years of dating. They made an announcement with similar posts on social media. In the joint statement, the pair wrote: “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”

Camila and Mendes’ friendship dates back to 2014 when the both of them, separately, opened for the Austin Mahone tour. Rumors of them being in a relationship picked up pace after their steamy ‘Senorita’ video.

2014 – Austin Mahone tour

Mendes and Camila met during the opening of the Mahone tour. In their June 2019 V magazine digital cover, the duo talked about their first impressions of one another. “I remember I wanted to hang out with you, but you were always on the tour bus, just learning guitar,” Cabello said, to which Mendes replied, “Yeah, that was me. I didn’t talk to anybody. You were the only person that talked to me. Like, you were the only one of everybody on that tour who would say words to me. Actually, I think if we go into our DM’s or something, there’s a photo from the day we met, I think.”

April 2015 – Mendes chooses Camila in a round of “Lips, Wife or Leave It”

In a UK radio show, he was asked to choose among Camila, Jade Thirlwall and Chloe Grace Moretz. He picked Cabello and said that she would make a good wife.

November 2015 – “I Know What You Did Last Summer”

The duo paired up for the first solo “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which sparked dating rumors even back then.

March 2017 – “Kiss Me” cover

After a quiet couple of years, rumours of them dating started again when they released a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Kiss Me.”

April 2018 – Mendes calls Camila his “favorite person in the whole world.”

In an interview, Mendes said: “She’s my favorite person in the whole world,” Mendes said. “I shouldn’t be crying at this time in the morning but I AM,” Cabello tweeted in response. “i love you SO much.”

June 2019 – “Senorita”

After months of teasing, the duo dropped their sultry midtempo duet “Senorita,” full of lyrics like, “You say we’re just friends/ But friends don’t know the way you taste/ ‘Cause you know it’s been a long time coming/ Don’t you let me fall.”

July 2019 – Papped while holding hands in West Hollywood

Around the same time as Senorita, the couple, in public, appeared cozy. Apart from holding hands, the couple spent the Fourth of July together at a party in Malibu.

July 2019 – San Francisco and PDA

On July 13, TMZ photographed them kissing at a cafe in San Francisco.

August 2019: “Señorita” at the VMAs

The duo performed “Señorita” for the first time live together. The performers grew intimate with each other, teasing fans worldwide.

September 2019: The kiss

“So we saw like on Twitter and stuff, you guys saying about the way we were kissing and how it looks weird. Like we kiss like fish,” Mendes tells the camera in a clip posted to Instagram.

“Yeah, it really hurt our feelings,” Cabello chimed in.

“We just want to show you how we really kiss,” the Canadian pop star added.

October 2019 – Camila “really, really loves” Shawn

In an interview, the “Havana” singer said: “We’re pretty happy — I really, really love him a lot. This song was really fun because we got to just hang out again like we did on the song we did before, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,’ which is when we got really close,” she said of reuniting with Mendes for “Señorita.”

March 2020 – Quarantine livestream

During the pandemic, the two quarantined together and live-streamed together, too. In May 2020, Camila even posted photos of them cuddling.

October 2020 – Camila in Wonder documentary trailer

In Mendes’ Wonder documentary, she appeared throughout. In a clip, Mendes says: “My song comes on the radio or something, and I’m like, ‘Everything is about you, they’ve always been about you.’ She goes, ‘What do you mean?’ I’m like, ‘They’re all about you. Like every song I’ve ever wrote.’”
