Cannes Film Festival 2021 is here after a year gap because of the pandemic. The film festival is about celebrating cinema, but the focus on glamour is equally visible on the red carpet when celebrities from across the globe walk while the whole world is watching.

Time and again, many Bollywood stars including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, and Kangana Ranaut sashayed down the red carpet in glamorous gowns and extravagant ensembles at the gala event. However, they even caught the attention with their desi looks too when they flaunted saris on this international red carpet.

Here’s a look at Bollywood stars who walked the Cannes red carpet in a sari.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a regular at Cannes and represents a cosmetic brand. Though the former Miss World charms with her beautiful smile and talkative eyes, she even grabbed attention with a bright green sari that she paired with a corset blouse during Cannes 2003.

She again opted for a sheer gold sari as she walked the red carpet at Cannes in 2010 with husband Abhishek Bachchan.

Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut is the queen of fashion too just like her acting and she knows how to look best on the red carpet too. In 2018, Kangana Ranaut looked beautiful in a simple black embellished sequin sari and she matched it up a purse and a statement choker necklace which came with rose-cut diamonds, emeralds, and pearls.  In 2019, the actress amped up her simple gold kanjeevaram sari with the glamorous embellished corset and elevated the look with royal gloves.

Sonam Kapoor

In 2013, Sonam walked the prestigious Cannes red carpet in glamorous traditional attire. For the opening ceremony and ‘The Great Gatsby’ premiere, Sonam opted for a stunning white lace sari with intricate gold embroidery and paired it with a matching long embroidered jacket.

Neena Gupta

Neena Gupta too made her Cannes debut in 2018 to unveil the first look of Vikas Khann’s directorial venture – ‘The Last Colour’, which revolves around the widows of Vrindavan. Neena wore an ivory crushed sari with a knockout pink blouse in tribal vase prints and accessorized it with a pair of statement earrings from Suhani Pittie.

Nandita Das

The actress-turned-director looked elegant as ever sporting different sari looks at the film festival in 2018 during the screening of her film ‘Manto’ , which also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Divya Dutta and Rasika Duggal in lead roles.
