Allegations against the media have surfaced in relation to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case, criticising the coverage on the accused Rhea Chakraborty, who is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Some celebrities have also spoken up in the favour of Rhea Chakraborty, and have called it ‘unfair’ citing various reasons.
Taapsee Pannu
‘Thappad’ actor Taapsee Pannu has urged people to trust the law of the country in a Twitter post on Sunday. “I didn’t know Sushant on a personal level nor do I know Rhea but what I know is, it only takes to be a human to understand how wrong it is to overtake judiciary to convict someone who isn’t proven guilty. Trust the law of the land for your sanity and the deceased’s sanctity,” she wrote.
Swara Bhasker
Swara Bhasker, too, spoke up against of ‘unfair media trials’ of Rhea. “I don’t think even #Kasab was subjected to the kind of witch-hunt on media.. & media trial that #RheaChakrobarty is being subjected to! Shame on Indian Media.. Shame on us for being a toxic voyueristic public consuming this poisonous hysteria,” she wrote in her tweet.
Richa Chadha
“I studied to be a journalist and throughly enjoyed it! But never have I been gladder that I chose to be an actor instead. Imagine working with these constipated, unhappy, spineless, ugly, high-functioning sociopaths who occupy most news rooms today,” Richa said on Twitter.
Lakshmi Manchu
In a Twitter statement, Telugu actor Lakshmi Manchu wrote, “I have complete trust in the judiciary system and all the agencies that are involved in bringing justice to Sushant. But until then can we restrain ourselves from being evil and cruel and lynching of person and her entire family without knowing the facts. I can only imagine the pain the entire family is going through with these so-called media trials. If something like this happened to me I would want my colleagues to stand up for at least the ones that know me to say back off hang on leave her alone and I ask all of you to do the same back off hang on leave her alone until the entire truth is officially release.”
Rhea Chakraborty is being questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau pertaining to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. She has been accused of abetting to the 34-year-old’s suicide, siphoning off his money and mentally harassing him in an FIR filed by the late actor’s father.
