Chhello Show, a Gujarati
coming-of-age drama film, is the Indian submission for the 95th Academy Award,
The Film Federation of India declared on Tuesday. The Gujarati film translates
to “Last Film Show” in English and has surpassed all the highest-grossing films
of this year including SS Rajamouli’s RRR and Vivek Agnihotri’s Kashmir Files
to secure a nomination for the Academy Awards. 

Chhello Show will
represent India in the Best International Feature Film category.

Here
are some facts on the Oscar-nominated film –

·     Chhello Show is the first Gujarati film which made it to
the Spotlight section at the 20th Tribeca Film Festival, in  June 2021,
where it premiered. In addition to that, Nalin’s Chhello Show was awarded the
Golden Spike for Best Film at the 66th Valladolid Film Festival, held in
October 2021.

·         The film derives its base from director Pan Nalin’s own childhood memories and it was shot in villages and railways junctions in Gujarat’s Saurashtra. The filming process began in March 2020 and the post-production of the film was concluded during the pandemic.

The pivotal roles of
the film will be played by actors like Bhavin Rabari, Richa Meena, Paresh
Mehta, Dipen Raval and Bhavesh Shrimali.

 The director
of the film is Pan Nalin, who is an international filmmaker renowned for his
award-winning films like Angry Indian Goddess and Valley of Flowers.

The plot narrates
the story of a little boy of night years who is enchanted by a light and shadow
show behind a celluloid film projection portraying how the culture of
single-screen cinema and 35 mm celluloid films is ending in India.

On October 14, 2022,
Chhello Show is going to premiere in theaters throughout the nation. Apart from
India, the film will also be released in Germany, Israel, Japan, Portugal and
Spain. Samuel Goldwyn Films acts as the film’s international distributor for
the audience in the United States of America and Orange Studio handles
distribution for the markets in Europe

Legendary Shochiku Studios is the film’s Japanese
distributor, and Medusa will distribute the Last Film Show (Chhello Show) in
Italian theaters.

Jugaad Motion Pictures, Monsoon Films, Chhello Show LLP, and Marc Duale jointly
produced the Oscar-nominated film.
