Hollywood actor Chris Pratt will be giving a voiceover for protagonist Mario in the upcoming animated movie ‘Super Mario Bros’, which is a project of Illumination Entertainment, according to media reports citing announcements from Nintendo.

Charles Martinet, who has been known as the voice of Mario, will also make a guest appearance in the upcoming flick.

In addition to Pratt, numerous prominent Hollywood actors will take up roles in the ‘Super Mario Bros’ film. These include Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

The announcement of the lead cast of the movie came while the Nintendo Direct event was underway, according to reports from IGN.

The upcoming animated movie, which was originally unveiled in 2018, has been scheduled to release next year on December 21. The producers of the flick include Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario, and Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination Entertainment.

A previous adaption of the movie was taken up as a 1993 live-action feature and put actors like Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo in the lead roles. Hoskins played the protagonist Mario Leguizamo took up the role of Mario’s brother and sidekick Luigi.

However, the film could not collect the estimated support at the time of release and failed to dominate the box office.

In May this year, it was reported that multimedia giant Nintendo would be looking into options beyond Super Mario, according to IGN reports.

Chris Pratt, who is 42 years old, is known for taking up roles in the comedic genre and is famed for his character ‘Star Lord’ in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Avengers Endgame’.
