Clu Gulager, an acting icon, died at the age of 93. The word of his death circulated quickly on social media on Saturday afternoon. He left behind a legacy of innumerable unforgettable roles.

Clu Gulagar is most known for his role as Burt in the 1985 horror-comedy The Return of the Living Dead, and he also played Mr. Walsh the following year in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge. Those are just two roles from an almost 70-year career that has seen Gulager earn an impressive 165 credits on IMDb.

Gulager also appeared in films such as The Killers, The Last Picture Show, Mystery in Dracula’s Castle, The Killer Who Wouldn’t Die, The Initiation, From a Whisper to a Scream, The Hidden, and Uninvited.

He also starred in films like Teen Vamp, Puppet Master 5, the Feast trilogy, Piranha 3DD, Tangerine, Blue Jay, Children of the Corn: Runaway, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

He married fellow actor Miriam Byrd-Nethery on June 19, 1952 and they were married until she died in 2003.  Clu Gulager’s sons, John and Tom Gulager, survive him. Feast 1-3, Piranha 3DD, and Children of the Corn: Runaway were all directed by John Gulager, his son.

Gulager’s first big movie role was as a villain in Don Siegel’s The Killers (1964), opposite Lee Marvin and Ronald Reagan, followed by a supporting role in the racing film Winning (1969), opposite Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward; in Peter Bogdanovich’s drama The Last Picture Show (1971); and opposite John Wayne in McQ (1974).
