The long-awaited second season of Dalgliesh is finally here, and fans can’t wait to see what the poet and detective will unravel next.

Release Date
The new season, which consists of six episodes, is set to premiere on Acorn TV on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 12:00 AM. The first two episodes, titled Death of an Expert Witness, will be directed by Geoffrey Sax and written by Helen Edmundson.

Plot
Based on the seventh novel by PD James, Death of an Expert Witness follows the murder of a senior scientist at a police lab. His colleagues are too experienced to have left any clues, making the case particularly challenging for Adam Dalgliesh, who must use his empathy and insight to solve the crime.

Bertie Carvel returns as the intensely cerebral and widowed sleuth and part-time poet Adam Dalgliesh. Carlyss Peer also reprises her role as the detective’s partner DS Kate Miskin. Alistair Brammer will join the cast as DS Daniel Tarrant.

Cast
The season’s guest stars reportedly include Richard Harrington, Deborah Findlay, Daisy Waterstone, Michael Maloney, Sorcha Cusack, Sylvestra Le Touzel, and Richard Goulding.

Director
After the premiere of Death of an Expert Witness, the season will continue with A Certain Justice and The Murder Room, directed by Andy & Ryan Tohill and Jon Wright, respectively. A Certain Justice is based on James’s novel about the murder of a brilliant criminal lawyer, Venetia Aldridge, just before she takes over as the Head of Chambers in Pawlet Court, London. The Murder Room is based on James’s 2003 novel set in The Dupayne Museum, where three feuding siblings and one of them, Neville Dupayne, is killed in the titular room of the museum.

Trailer

The show has been renewed for a third season, so fans can expect production for season 3 to begin soon. Bertie Carvel has expressed interest in setting the next two seasons 10 years apart, with series 2 set in the mid-’80s and series 3 in the mid-’90s.

Channel
Acorn TV has released an intense trailer for the new season, featuring scenes of crime scenes, interrogations, and warnings from Adam Dalgliesh. DS Kate Miskin appears concerned about the brutal, premeditated murder they’re investigating.
