Lil Tay fans are more angry than relieved after the controversial child rapper took to social media to declare that she and her brother were not dead.
The 14-year-old social media influencer’s family told TMZ a day after a statement announcing her death was posted on her Instagram page: “I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say. It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.”
However, instead of celebrating the fact that the teen influencer is completely fine, fans were outraged and started speculating that the whole thing was an attempt by Tay and her family to promote her crypto currency which launches on Thursday.
Here are a few reactions:
Her family on Tay’s behalf further added: “My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not ‘Claire Hope’.”
The death statement which was posted on August 9 on her Instagram page has been presently removed and Tay gave Meta credit for taking swift action on the same. It read: “

It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing,” read a statement shared on Tay’s Instagram account on August 9. “We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain. This outcome was entirely unexpected, and has left us all in shock. Her brother’s passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief.”
The spokesperson who had posted the statement, asked for “privacy” during this time of grief. Both Tay and her brother, Jason Tian’s deaths “are still under investigation,” according to the post.
It is still unclear why it took Tay 24 hours to let her fans know that she was alive.
