Fans are speculating that Selena Gomez started following Hailey Bieber on Instagram after Bieber reached out to her and opened up about receiving death threats on social media from Gomez’s fans.
The speculation comes in the backdrop of a recent Instagram story put up by Gomez in support of Hailey Bieber, the wife of Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. She revealed in the story that Hailey Bieber told her how she received “death threats and such hateful negativity” from Gomez’s fans.

“Hailey BIber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,” Gomez said. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I have always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.

Although Gomez has always spoken in favor of sisterhood and the importance of women not bringing down other women, the fandom around the Biebers and Selena Gomez has often taken a toxic turn. Gomez has previously come in support of Hailey Biber after similar incidents of fans harassing the latter came up, first in 2019 and then again in 2020.
The feud between Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez reportedly started after Gomez released a song in 2019 titled Los You to Love Me, allegedly taking a dig at his ex-boyfriend’s wife. Hailey Biber then posted the son I’ll Kill You by Summer Walker and Jhene Aiko to her Instagram story.

Even though Hailey Bieber later categorically said that the song in the story had nothing to do with Gomez’s song, the pop star’s fans did not take it kindly and attacked Hailey Biber on social media multiple times.
Gomez then defended Biber on Instagram live saying that she is grateful for the response of the song,” but would “never stand for women tearing other women down”.
“So please be kind to everyone,” she said. “Please be kind, I don’t like seeing people being disrespectful or rude to other people, so please don’t do that.”
