The disappearance of MH370, a flight carrying 239 passengers and crew members, has left many families in grief and heartbreak. Ghyslain Wattrelos, a bereaved husband and father, is among those who have been left in the dark about what happened to their loved ones. Although it is difficult to lose loved ones in any situation, the pain and suffering are amplified when there are no answers. Ghyslain Wattrelos is originally from France but had been living with his family in Beijing, China for nearly six years. In March 2014, Ghyslain and his college-going son Alex were in France while his wife Laurence, 17-year-old son Hadrien, and 13-year-old daughter Ambre were on a beach vacation near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The family had planned their trips carefully so that they could maximize the time they spent together. However, tragedy struck when the plane carrying Ghyslain’s wife and children disappeared without a trace on March 8, 2014.

In the Netflix documentary series MH370: The Plane That Disappeared, Ghyslain shares his experience of learning about the disappearance of his family. He had spoken to his wife the day before the flight, and everything seemed fine. However, he received a message from his daughter saying that she was at the airport in Kuala Lumpur and excited to see her father again. When Ghyslain landed in Paris, he was met by two diplomats who broke the news to him that the plane had disappeared. Ghyslain was in shock and couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He even texted his missing wife and children every night before going to bed for a long time, hoping for a miracle.
After the disappearance of his family, Ghyslain moved back to Paris from Beijing and filed a judicial case. He charged the incident under the category of “act of terrorism,” which is the highest ranking in France. He believes that the plane was intentionally drowned, hijacked, or shot down by a third party. He wants to keep the search for his family going and is determined to get answers. Ghyslain is an engineer and business executive based in Paris and is using his expertise to help officials locate the missing aircraft.
Le reportage actuellement au #Soir3 sur #France3 sur l'avion #MH370 rappelle que 4 ans jour pour jour après cette disparition, on ne sait toujours RIEN de cette avion. Ghyslain believes that the truth about the disappearance of MH370 has been covered up. He was told by a credible source that “the Americans know full well what happened because two American AWACS were monitoring the area at the time the plane disappeared.” He believes that his family was deliberately targeted and that someone on the plane posed a threat that had to be eliminated. However, he still has many unanswered questions and is determined to get to the truth.
