The Gray Man‘ is the Russo brothers latest Netflix action movie, starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in lead roles as Sierra Six and Lloyd Hansen.

The movie does not have a mid and end credit scene but everything about the movie suggests that there’s much more to come.

In the film, Sierra Six, played by Ryan Gosling, is an agency asset with no official record whose job it is to go to places where the US Central Intelligence Agency cannot officially go – which translates to network.

He was hired by Billy Bob Thornton’s Donald Fitzroy, a senior CIA agent who serves as a father figure to Sierra Six, who, surprise, has father issues.

At the end of ‘The Gray Man’, the CIA’s top brass exonerates Denny Carmichael, Suzanne Brewer, and Dani Miranda after Suzanne devises a plan to pin all of the blame on the now-deceased Lloyd Hansen.

After all, he was already a wild card, and the rest of the CIA could easily conclude that Lloyd went too far in his pursuit of Sierra Six.

Suzanne’s plan, on the other hand, tilts the scales in her favour. Jessica Henwick’s role was frequently overlooked throughout the film, but she has now surpassed Carmichael in terms of power, having murdered Lloyd and destroyed the flash drive containing damning evidence.

Meanwhile, Sierra Six flees the hospital after being healed to go rescue Claire, who is being held as a pawn in a secure facility.

They drive away, and everything appears to be in order – at least for now. ‘The Gray Man’s’ finale is very dramatic, and there are several unresolved narrative strands that appear to be building up to a sequel.

The Russo Brothers clearly intended for the action thriller to be the start of a franchise, and there is plenty more to be discovered. The film’s ending raises the question of who the old man is who is responsible for Carmichael and Suzanne’s time at the agency.

The frustrating aspect of a potential ‘The Gray Man 2’ is that Chris Evans is almost certainly out of the picture, as Suzanne Brewer (Jessica Henwick) fatally shot Lloyd Hansen in the chest to end the fight he and Gentry/Six were having in the centre of the hedge maze.

We expect ‘The Gray Man”s surviving cast members to return, and they are as follows.

It’s unclear whether Netflix and the Russo Brothers will stick to the skeleton of stories already written by ‘The Gray Man‘ author Mark Greaney. After The Gray Man, there are ten more Gentry novels awaiting adaptation.

Gentry is forced into a mission against his will in the next chapter of the series, ‘On Target’. A Russian arms merchant named Sidorenko wants Gentry to kill Sudan’s president, while the CIA tells him he can be freed if he brings the Sudanese president in as a hostage.
