Ryan Gosling was supposed to appear as a guest star on Donald Glover’s FX drama Atlanta in season three, but preparations fell through.

The programme has always included a lot of guest stars, including Migos, Katt Williams, and Michael Vick, but Gosling is a surprise pick even fans didn’t see coming.

Glover explained how he approached the Oscar nominee and why he couldn’t participate in an interview with People Magazine. Glover expressed his disappointment, saying, “I was so bummed because the part was so great for him, he said he was a big fan, but he had something else, and it just didn’t work out.”

Given Gosling’s busy schedule, it’s no wonder he turned it down. He’ll appear in The Gray Man, Wolfman, Barbie, and a few other films in the near future.

Season 3, which premiered on March 24, has ten episodes and is the first time Atlanta will be streamed in-season on Hulu. The first two seasons, which broadcast before FX was acquired by Disney and Disney took over Hulu, are also available to watch on Hulu.

Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Hiro Murai, Stefani Robinson, Paul Simms, and Dianne McGunigle executive produce Atlanta, which is produced by FX Productions.

The series follows Earnest “Earn” Marks (Glover), a college dropout and music manager, and rapper Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) as they negotiate the Atlanta rap scene. Lakeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz also appear in the show.

Atlanta has received critical acclaim and a slew of awards and nominations, including two Golden Globes for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Glover, as well as two Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Glover’s Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series was the first ever given to an African-American, and his work as the show’s writer and executive producer has been praised.
