One of Bollywood’s most loved choreographers, Saroj Khan, took her last breath on Friday morning. She died due to cardiac arrect at the age of 71. Known for her lyrical movements, Saroj created a genre of its own in Bollywood, combining many known dance forms with Indian classical. Her most famous collborations were with Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit but with the latter, Saroj shared a bond that transcended the glitzy world of glamour.

Thus this comes as no surprise the in her last interview, the choreographer talked about her immense love for Madhuri and dance in Bollywood. In an interview given to india.com on Madhuri’s birthday on May 15, Saroj reminisced about her iconic work with Madhuri and how easy it was to work with her.

“She’s a beautiful student of mine. We have worked together in many songs. We have enjoyed each other’s dances. She’s a perfect dancer. But she didn’t know Hollywood-Bollywood dancing. In Kathak, you don’t have to move your hips. It’s considered a taboo. So, she was nervous before. You have to shake your hips here. Our story began from the sets of ‘Uttar Dakshin’. She took some time but learned very quickly.” she said.

When asked if there could be anyone like Madhuri, the veteran choreographer said, “I don’t see Madhuri in any actress today. There are Aishwarya and Deepika who are very good dancers. But, they have their own style.”

At the end of the interview, Saroj wished well for Madhuri and said that they still share a great bond.

When the news of Saroj death broke out, Madhuri took to twitter to express her grief.

Madhuri and Saroj worked in various films together and their collaboration won the choreographer eight Filmfare awards.
