Drishyam protagonist was an intelligent, calculative, believable hero. In Drishyam 2, he has transformed into an invincible superhero who can work miracles. If the first was convincing, the second gives the feeling of a forced attempt at cashing in on the hugely successful prequel.

As a disclaimer, I must say that I watched the movie in Malayalam with English subtitles, so maybe something was lost in translation. But then, I watched part I also in the same configuration.

It may still be a commercial hit, given the star value of actor Mohanlal and the movie being pushed by director Jeethu Joseph and his team with the same touch and feel as the earlier one. But something is amiss.

The film opens with a six-year leap but crawls thereafter. First 35 minutes of the 2 hour 33 minute movie drag trying to set the stage. The cable operator of part 1 is now also a financially struggling cinema hall owner, Georgekutty, with an ambition to make a film.

Having set the stage, the movie finally starts picking up and has a few sparkling scenes that remind one of the tautness of Drishyam. But the movie soon crosses the line of convincibility and blurs into a few gripping scenes, strung together.

What Georgekutty did to get away with murder is revealed beautifully through the script he had submitted to a director.

The scenes where the director narrates the plot are beautifully treated, so are a few court scenes.

The climax goes over the top and one is left saying, ‘really?’ Georgekutty by the end of the movie has left so many leads that he challenges the intelligence displayed by the hero of Drishyam.

The camerawork stands out, as do the locales in the movie that I expected more from.
