Echo is the spinoff to Hawkeye, the Marvel series on Disney+. The trailer for the upcoming show was unveiled at the D23 Expo in Anaheim and gives audiences the first major indigenous hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Echo release date

Echo is slated to release sometime next summer but an exact date hasn’t been set yet.

Echo cast

Alaqua Cox returns as Echo, the first Native American hero in the MCU, and since the show is a Hawkeye spinoff, some familiar faces are expected to return as well. Among them are Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Charlie Cox as Daredevil.

Other cast members include Zahn McClarnon playing Lopez’s father William, plus Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning and Graham Greene round out the cast.

Lopez is usually a sidekick to Daredevil and in the comics has been one of his love interests as well. She’s also Kingpin’s adopted daughter, and the Hawkeye series saw the changing relationship between them.

Echo plot

Echo will see the titular character move from New York to try and get in touch with her native roots, but gets mired in a different crisis.

The story is important for “all of us growing up on our reserves, wishing to see indigenous superheroes”, Cox said at the D23 Expo. Lopez is a deaf Cheyenne woman who has abilities to mimic anyone’s movement and comes with expert athletic skills too. This makes her a formidable opponent.

Hawkeye saw Echo leave Kingpin’s side when she learned the crime boss had actually been responsible for her father’s mother, not Ronin, as she was led to believe.

“What a journey this has been. This is only the second role I’ve ever had”, Cox gushed on stage at the D23 Expo, adding, “This is such an amazing feeling. To only be my second lead. It’s great.”
