Niantic’s Pokémon GO on Thursday announced that Grammy award-winning artist Ed Sheeran will star in a special performance for Pokémon GO Trainers (players). This special in-game event is in celebration of the singer’s release of his new album, “=” (Equals). The event will go on for 8 days, starting November 23 at 12:30 am IST to December 1 at 2:30 am IST and Pokémon GO Trainers will be able to enjoy some of the singer’s classic tracks via an intimate, pre-recorded performance video accessible through Pokémon GO.
Players will be able to attend a pre-recorded virtual performance in celebration of the release of his new album, “=” (Equals). The video will feature songs from his albums such as ‘Perfect,’ ‘Bad Habits,’ ‘Thinking Out Loud,’ ‘Shivers,’ ‘First Time,’ and ‘Overpass Graffiti’.
Pokémon GO players “will be notified of the feature when it goes live or they can click the sponsored balloons that randomly appear in the game,” the official press release said.
“As part of the celebration, Ed Sheeran’s favorite Pokémon, Squirtle, will appear in Pokémon GO with its signature shades. Players can also redeem a special code to receive an exclusive in- game avatar item in Pokémon GO featuring Ed Sheeran’s “=” album art, which he wears during his special performance. The special code is 4SQS6N359Y7NPCUW, and it can be redeemed on this page,” the release added.
Soon after the announcement, several of the singers fans expressed their excitement on Twitter.
“If there’s an ed sheeran pokémon and i am going to do everything in my power to obtain it. everything,” one person wrote.
“This is my favorite thing I’ve seen so far today. I cannot even imagine what it means, but if Pikachu has a red wig on, I will catch all of them. XDXD” another person commented.
