Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, popularly known as “Y,” is the strange baby girl name picked by Grimes and Elon Musk.
Grimes revealed in the April cover story of Vanity Fair that she and Musk would have their second child, a daughter, through a surrogate in December 2021.
According to Vanity Fair, Grimes and Elon Musk call their newborn daughter “Y,” despite the fact that her entire name, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, has a complicated significance.

If the name seems like it belongs in another dimension and time, that’s because it does.
Exa is “a reference to the supercomputing phrase exaFLOPS (the ability to do one quintillion floating-point operations per second).”
The word ‘Dark’ represents “the unknown.” People are afraid of it, yet it is the absence of photons. “Our universe’s magnificent enigma is dark matter.”
And ‘Sideræl’ is both a tribute to Grimes’ favourite “Lord of the Rings” heroine, Galadriel, and an “elven” spelling of sidereal, or “the true time of the cosmos, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time.”

According to Grimes, the true phonetic pronunciation of her daughter’s name, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, is “sigh-deer-ee-el.”
The mother of two, whose birth name was Claire Elise Boucher, told the publication that she would welcome her daughter altering her name in the future, even though she thinks Exa Dark Sideræl is “a little dull.”
She writes, “I was battling for Odysseus Musk.” “My fantasy is a girl named Odysseus.”
The couple also has a 22-month-old son named X A-12, which is pronounced: “X Ash A Twelve.”

“First and foremost, my partner is the one who came up with the term,” Musk said on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast in 2020. “It’s just X, the letter X, and then the ” is pronounced, ‘Ash,’ and then my addition is ‘A-12.'”
Musk has six boys from a previous marriage, and Y is his eighth child. Musk’s baby son Nevada died at the age of 10 weeks in 2002.
“My firstborn son died in my arms,” Musk said in an email conversation revealed earlier this year by Business Insider. “I could feel his heartbeat.”
