Babyface on Wednesday announced that he will not perform alongside Anita Baker at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center on Wednesday.
“I am truly sorry to my fans who have been waiting for us to hit the stage this evening at
@PruCenter. I was asked not to perform in order to give Ms. Baker her space and time to perform her show in its entirety. My band and I are extremely saddened we didn’t get to perform for y’all tonight 💔” Kenneth Brian Edmonds, better known by his stage name Babyface, tweeted.

The news garnered a lot of feedback on social media sites, especially Twitter, where users expressed their disappointment with Anita Baker. One of the Twitterati wrote, “Babyface and Anita Baker in concert is huge. Did Anita tell Babyface, no you can’t come and perform? Disappointing,” while another tweeted, “I don’t like Babyface being treated like this. Love her music. She’s great in concert. But too many stories like this.”
A third person said, “When someone shows you who they are the first time believe them. Anita baker has been showing people who she is for a very long time and now that she’s back on her feet. She’s come out, scratching and kicking.”
However, many also came to Baker’s aid and tried to explain her side of the scene, where one Twitter user wrote, “He should’ve gave more context. The show started late bc of technical issues so his part had to be cut in order for her to give a full show. It wasn’t her being rude. Seeing as ppl already have a certain version of her in their minds, this should’ve been stated in the post,” and another tweeted, “Y’all Anita baker is the HEADLINER! Even she was plagued with tech issues! Unfortunately, if they are prevented from going on due to any issues the HEADLINER gets priority !! Most ppl came to see her it’s technically her tour. I don’t think this is an ego thing.”
