The upcoming Fantastic Four movie from Marvel Studios won’t retrace the origin story of the superhero group.

Kevin Feige, Marvel boss, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, saying “A lot of people know this origin story”. He explained that the film would tell a story people hadn’t seen before. The 49-year-old producer continued, “A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?”

Viewers have already seen the origin story twice in two ‘Fantastic Four’ films, which were both panned by critics and audiences alike.

The 2005 movie saw Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, and Ioan Gruffudd as Mr Fantastic, while Chris Evans played Johnny Storm before taking on the mantle of Captain America, and Michael Chiklis appeared as The Thing.

In 2015, a reboot saw the origin story being told again with different actors playing the parts.

Dr Reed Richards and his group including Sue and Johnny Storm, and Benjamin Grimm have a failed space mission where they’re exposed to cosmic rays and end up with superpowers. While Richards becomes elastic, Sue Storm can turn invisible and Johnny becomes the Human Torch – a superhero who can manipulate fire. Grimm turns into a stony creature of immense strength going by the Thing moniker.

Feige has high expectations from the movie, and said, “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen”.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe already showed Mr Fantastic as part of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but the character played by John Krasinski died in the movie, so the upcoming film will likely be set in a different universe, where Marvel’s first family of superheroes is alive and doing well.

The Fantastic Four debuted in 1961 in the comics becoming Marvel’s first team of superheroes.
