The first actor to portrayed James Bond on screen, Sean Connery, turned 90 on Tuesday. Connery was born August 25, 1930, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The actor starred as ‘Agent 007’ in the first Bond film “Dr. No” in 1962. He starred in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983.

The actor has won Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award.

Connery has been polled in The Sunday Herald as “The Greatest Living Scot”. He was also voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1989 and the “Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He also received a lifetime achievement award in the US with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999.

His last credited role was voicing the main character in the animated film “Sir Billi” in 2012.

The official James Bond Twitter account wished the icon on his 90th birthday. “Happy Birthday to our original 007, Sean Connery, who turns 90 today. With love from Michael, Barbara, everyone at EON and all your fans,” read the tweet.

Pierce Brosnan, who also starred in the James Bond movies, wished the star. He posted a picture with the first-ever Bond on his Instagram.

He wrote, “Happy 90th birthday Sir Sean Connery … I was eleven years old in 1964, just off the plane from Ireland when I saw Goldfinger at the ABC cinema on Putney high street. You were my Bond of inspiration .”

Brosnan in 2006 paid tribute to Connery at the American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award event for the Scottish star. He said, “Sean, I have walked in your footsteps, and danced in the shadow you have cast on film history. As an actor I carry you both in my head and in my heart.
