Prince Highness and Prince Lowness gave incredible powers to Merton McSnurtle. McSnurtle was too lazy to commit a dishonest deed. The princes brought him to Vulcan damaging his shell in the process. McSnurtle was trained in athletics and arithmetic. His efforts translated into him being the most powerful on Earth. McSnurtle would fight crime as the Terrific Whatzit

McSnurtle was introduced as DC’s first funny animal superhero. He first appeared in Funny Stuff #1 and was created by Martin Naydel. McSnurtle’s powers include super strength, super speed, and the ability to fly. He also possesses an automatic conscience that won’t relent until he goes into action against the threat of the story. His costume is similar to Flash.

When in action, Merton removes his shell and takes on a costume identical to that of the Golden Age Flash. His last appearance was in Funny Stuff 17. After that, he continued to appear from time to time as McSnurtle the shopkeeper in other features. 

He appeared with his superheroic powers in Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew #9 in 1982. He was spotted helping the Allies during the Second Weird War. The series had revealed in an earlier story that the Terrific Whatzit is the uncle of Zoo Crew team member Fastback. 

An ordinary turtle wearing the classic Terrific Whatzit costume is spotted in DC Super Friends #14 in June 2009. He is seen as an adopted pet of Flash. Another version of the Terrific Whatzit appeared in the DC Super- Pets children’s book, Salamander Smackdown. He is seen as a superpowered pet of the contemporary Flash. He is seen wearing a costume similar to the modern Flash’s.

DC League of Super Pets will be the first film appearance of the Terrific Whatzit. The character will be voiced by Natasha Lyonne. The character will be portrayed as female.
