“Don’t worry darling,” Florence Pugh has a lot in store for you. 

The ‘Dune: Part Two’ actor has signed a new Netflix project that is inspired by John Steinbeck’s novel ‘East of Eden’, according to a report by Variety. 

The adaptation, which is still in its pre-production stage, will star Pugh in a pivotal role. It will be written and produced by Zoe Kazan, the granddaughter of Elia Kazan, who helmed the 1995 cinematic adaptation of the book. 

While it is certain that Pugh will star in the show, the details of her character are still under the wraps. The show will be jointly produced by Endeavor Content and Anonymous Content.

John Steinbeck’s ‘East of Eden’ was published in 1952. It revolves around the complexity of love and the brutal repercussions of its absence. The themes are depicted through the lives of the Hamiltons, an Irish immigrant family with nine kids, and the Trasks, a family led by a rich man named Adam Trask. Set in California’s Salinas Valley during the time period between the Civil War and the end of the First World War, the story captures the drama that unfolds within the two families.

Elia Kazan’s 1995 adaptation focused on the third act of the novel. It starred James Dean as Cal, the protagonist. The film also featured Raymond Massey, Julie Harris, Richard Davalos, and Jo Van Fleet in lead roles.

The film garnered four Oscars, including best picture, and best-supporting actress for Fleet’s performance as Cathy. 

In 1981, the novel was adapted into a series by ABC. The show was directed by Richard Alan Shapiro and written by Harvey Hart. It starred Karen Allen, Jane Seymour, Soon Tek-Oh, Sam Bottoms, Lloyd Bridges, Hart Bochner, Timothy Bottoms, and Bruce Boxleitner.
