Paul Reubens, the actor best known for portraying Pee-wee Herman, died Sunday night of cancer. He was 70

The children’s television programme Pee-wee’s Playhouse made Paul Reubens famous in the United States as a comedian and actor.

There were rumours that Reubens and Valeria Golino, who portrayed Pee-wee’s love interest in the movie, were dating. Golino, who previously starred in Rain Man, has garnered countless accolades internationally. As a result of their joint appearance at the 1988 Academy Awards, relationship rumours started to circulate.

Mock Wedding

Reubens and Chandi Heffner, the adopted daughter of tobacco heiress Doris Duke, had a “mock wedding” in 1989. The two exchanged “vows” at Duke’s Hawaiian estate, but it was later discovered that everything was a ruse. This generated even more sexuality-related rumours, and many people began to wonder why he staged the fictitious wedding.

Relationship with Debi Mazar

Reubens dated Debi Mazar for several years beginning in 1993. Mazar is an actress best known for her roles in the films Goodfellas, Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, The Only Living Boy in New York, Little Man Tate, Living with Fran, Younger, L.A. Law, and The Life & Times of Tim.

The engagement of Paul and Mazar was also reported by The Globe. Debi jokingly said, “Paul and I are crazy about each other, and yes, he offered me a ring. As for it being an engagement, do you believe everything you read in The Globe?”, indicating that it was a rumor created by the media.

Paul has since credited Debi with ending his depression resulting from his 1991 arrest.

In 2018, Mazar revealed that their relationship was only platonic.

”We were best friends and the truth of the matter is is that we had a love affair yeah that was just cerebral, and it was great,” Debi told Andy Cohen. ”We spent like a year or two inseparable driving everywhere, doing everything together. I got him out of the house…it was a very difficult time for him.”

In March 2002, Mazar married Gabriele Corcos, the creator of Extra Virgin on the Cooking Channel.
