The Income Tax Department, on Wednesday, conducted raids on
the properties of film director Anurag Kashyap and actor Taapsee Pannu in
Mumbai and Pune, according to reports. The raids are linked to the
director-actor duo promoted Phantom Films and talent hunt company in Mumbai,
reports PTI quoting officials.

The two stars have often been in news for their
views on current issues such as the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act
(CAA), the JNU protest and the ongoing farmers’ protest.

In his attack on the government over the
Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019, which was passed by Parliament on
December 11, Kashyap had tweeted, “The CAA/CAB is not going anywhere. It
is impossible for them to take it back because, for them, that would mean
defeat. This government views everything in terms of victory and defeat. Such
is their ego that even if everything gets burned to ashes, Modi can never be
wrong. Because illiterate people are like that.”

The filmmaker later apologized when a user slammed him for using
the term “illiterate”.

In one of the posts, Kashyap also said that PM
Modi only works for show. He tweeted in Hindi: “At times I feel that if
Pakistan was not there, then perhaps Modi ji would not have any topic to talk
about. Anyway, he works only when there is a camera around.”

Just a few days back, Kashyap had called PM Modi an ‘Urban Nazi’
on Twitter.

He even changed his profile picture to masked PM
Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on Twitter during Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) violence that involved masked mob entering the campus and thrashed students and teachers.

Tapsee, on the other hand, has also spoken against CAA and
frequently got into Twitter spats with actor Kangana Ranaut.
After International pop star Rihanna tweeted about
farmers’ protests in India, a host of Bollywood celebrities expressed
solidarity with the government. But Taapsee had different viewpoint. The
actress tweeted about how not to become a propaganda teacher for others. She
said, “If one tweet rattles your unity, one joke rattles your faith or one
show rattles your religious belief then it’s you who has to work on
strengthening your value system not become ‘propaganda teacher’ for others.”

Taapsee event supported Diljit Dosanj during his verbal war
with Kangana Ranaut on social media over farmers protest. The two were engaged
in a Twitter battle after the actress misidentified an elderly Sikh woman
during the farmers’ protest as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh in one of her Tweets.

She had also joined a protest in Mumbai in
solidarity with JNU students
