Gal Gadot has admitted that the viral video of ‘Imagine’, the popular John Lennon song, was a mistake. The 36-year-old star, known for ‘Wonder Woman’, said that the video made and released in 2020 had the right intentions but the timing was not correct.
Speaking to InStyle, she said, “I was calling Kristen [Wiig] and I was like, ‘Listen, I want to do this thing.’ The pandemic was in Europe and Israel before it came here [to the U.S.] in the same way.” Gadot has maintained that she knew where things were headed at the time, but viewers might have found the video premature.
The ‘Red Notice’ star continued “It wasn’t the right timing, and it wasn’t the right thing. It was in poor taste. All pure intentions, but sometimes you don’t hit the bull’s-eye, right?”

At least, she’s had a sense of humour about it and poked fun at herself, deciding to sing the song while accepting an award by Elle Women in Hollywood. Gadot said, “Might as well. They had a mic there. It just felt right, and I don’t take myself too seriously … I felt like I wanted to take the air out of it, so that [event] was a delightful opportunity to do that.”

She’d earlier spoken about the matter to Vanity Fair in an interview in October 2020, saying, “Sometimes, you know, you try and do a good deed and it’s just not the right good deed. I had nothing but good intentions and it came from the best place, and I just wanted to send light and love to the world. I started with a few friends, and then I spoke to Kristen [Wiig]. Kristen is like the mayor of Hollywood. Everyone loves her, and she brought a bunch of people to the game. But yeah, I started it, and I can only say that I meant to do something good and pure, and it didn’t transcend.”

When Gadot has posted the video, it had been six days since the COVID-19 lockdown in the US. The star shared that she was feeling philosophical, which had been her musical motivation. The clip also includes celebrities like Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, and Mark Ruffalo.
