DC Comics blockbuster ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ captured the most viewing time yet for a feature film on its opening weekend in the last week of December 2020, reported The Hollywood Reporter citing rankings by Nielsen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hit superhero film has become the biggest feature film in Nielsen’s rankings. It has also emerged as one of the biggest streaming titles on any OTT platform since the launch of Nielsen’s streaming measurement.

Users on the HBO Max platform spent 2.25 billion minutes watching the film from December 21 to 27. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is equivalent to approximately14.9 million plays of the film.

Actor Gal Gadot, who essayed the lead role of Diana Prince in the movie, reacted to the news. 

“This is amazing,” she tweeted, while thanking her fans for their support.

HBO Max had earlier noted that close to half of its subscribers had watched the movie the day it released.

The film, a sequel to the 2017 hit ‘Wonder Woman’, also starred Chris Pine, Pedro Pascal, Kristen Wiig, Robin Wright, and Connie Nielsen. Also directed by Patty Jenkins, the film was set during the Cold War and followed Diana as she battled Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). Fans were thrilled to witness the return of her past love, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

According to The Hollywood Reported, Pixar’s ‘Soul’ was earlier Number 1 on Nielsen’s rankings with 1.67 billion minutes of play.
