The protagonist of the longest running medical drama, Grey’s
Anatomy
, Meredith Grey has been brushed with death on one too many occasions.
It seems like the character has more lives than a cat, having survived on seven
occasions.

An Explosive Surgery in season 2

Meredith had to reach inside the chest of an unconscious man
stop his bleeding and consequently save his life. The patient had an unexploded
bazooka shell inside him which would have detonated by any slight movement.

However, the removal was successful and Meredith lived but
the bomb squad worker Dylan Young wasn’t as lucky and died on his way out with
the explosive.

Nearly drowning in season 3

Meredith fell into freezing water while helping victims of a
ferry accident. She didn’t try too hard to reach the surface of the water because
of being in an unstable state mentally. Grey revealed that she just wanted to stop
and end it all.

She ends up living thanks to valiant efforts from Derek,
Bailer, Richard and others who did not give up on her.

Hospital Shooting in season 6

A widower breaks into the hospital and goes on a shooting
rampage to avenge the death of his wife. He went after three surgeons – Derek Shepherd,
Richard Webber and Lexie Grey. Eleven people were killed in the shooting.

Meredith asks the shooter to kill her but Cristina’s quick
thinking saves the pregnant women. However, she suffers a miscarriage in the
following minutes.

Plan Crash in season 8

A number of doctors succumb to the plane crash on a trip to
Idoho in order to perform a surgery. Fortunately, Meredith was amongst the
least injured people while her sister Lexie was not as lucky and breathed her
last breath in that episode.

Emergency C-Section in season 9

Meredith almost bled to death after having to undergo an
emergency C-section during a power-cut. She had internal bleeding from falling down
the stairs earlier which could have proved to be lethal.

A Patient’s Attack in season 12

Still fresh off Derek’s heart-breaking death, Meredith was
attacked by a patient who was in a post-seizure state of aggression. She almost
died off her injuries due to suffering from multiple fractures, dislocations
and hearing loss.

Suffering from COVID-19 in season 17

The coronavirus pandemic affected the whole world and
Meredith was amongst those who suffered the most. It might be the closest Grey got
to death, having been kept on the ventilator and still managing to make it out
alive.
