Madhuri Dixit, the Bollywood Diva who has time and again made people dance to her tunes, turned 54 on Saturday. Once a reigning queen of Bollywood, the “Hum Aapke Hai Kaun” actor made her debut in Bollywood in 1984 with movie ‘Abodh’ at the age of 17 and went on to become one of the biggest success stories of the Indian film industry. 

Madhuri Dixit has been named the highest-paid Indian actress by the Guinness Book of Records Millennium version and she was also named “Actress of the Millenium” in 2000.

1. Tezaab

Released in 1988, Madhuri Dixit shot to fame with the blockbuster hit and the song “Ek Do Teen.” The movie ran in theatres for over 50 weeks, becoming a golden jubilee. Apart from Madhuri Dixit, ‘Tezaab’ stars Anil Kapoor in lead roles. 

2. Hum Aapke Hain Kaun

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun released in 1994 and was the biggest hit of its time and it is also the first Indian movie to gross over Rs 1 billion. From ‘Didi Tera Dewar Deewana’ to ‘Wah Wah Ramji’ and ‘Lo Chali Mai’, the movie gave chartbusters songs. The movie stars  Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan in lead roles. 

3. Beta

Starring Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Aruna Irani in lead roles, ‘Beta’ movie released in 1992 and it was the biggest hit of the year. The movie has won five Filmfare Awards. The movie also gave the chartbuster song, “Dhak Dhak Karne Lage” for which Anuradha Pawal won the Best Female Playback Singer Award. 

4. Dil to Pagal Hai

A musical romance film, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ stars Madhuri Dixit, Shah Rukh Khan and Karishma Kapoor in lead roles and a cameo of Akshay Kumar. The movie was the highest-grossing film of the year 1997 and it has bagged eight Filmfares after 11 nominations. It won three National Awards, including the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Karishma Kapoor. 

5. Devdas

The movie Devdas, released in 2002, is based on a romantic novel written by Sharat Chandra Chatterjee. It stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit and was one of the biggest box office hits of the year, grossing over 99 crores. ‘Devdas’ was also India’s official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2003 Oscars.
