One of
Bollywood’s most talented actor turns 35 today. Riding high on accolades and
hit movies such as ‘Lootera’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Gully Boy’, among others,
Ranveer Singh has time and again proved his potential.

On December
10, 2010, audiences caught the first glimpse of Ranveer Singh in the Yash Raj’s
‘Band Baaja Baaraat’. 10 years later, the actor has truly established himself
in the industry with several blockbusters, and his upcoming movie 83 directed
by Kabir Khan has been receiving praises even before its release.

And what is
interesting is that the actor does not shy away from experimenting – be it
on-screen while playing characters or off-screen, with his dapper style and
looks. From his ‘boy next door’ look in ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl to his fierce
getup in Padmaavat; Ranveer has always managed to stand out.

On his
birthday, here’s a look at some of his whackiest roles:

A charmer in
Band Baaja Baaraat

Ranveer won
everyone’s heart when his first film ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ released. He engaged
the audience with his carefree, chilled-out character – Bittoo Sharma. A major
reason behind the massive acceptance before the release was its music – who can
forget the peppy Ainvayi Ainvayi?

A conman in
Ladies vs Ricky Bahl

From a
chocolate boy, Ranveer Singh turned into a conman in his next movie ‘Ladies vs
Ricky Bahl’. His mind-blowing performance won everyone’s heart yet again. The
rom-com was directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra did not do
well, but Ranveer won all the praises for his acting. The film also stars
Anushka Sharma in lead roles along with Dipannita Sharma, Aditi Sharma and
Parineeti Chopra in supporting roles.

A mysterious
young man in
Lootera

Vikramaditya
Motwane’s ‘Lootera’ may not have been a hit, but it established Ranveer Singh
as an actor. The beautifully shot film has acquired a cult status over the
years. This was a completely new role for the actor, who had to essay a
non-glamorous, emotionally turbulent, and restrained character.

A dramatic
lover-boy in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela

With Goliyon
Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Ranveer finally got the chance to work with the ace
filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. According to a PTI report, he said, “Mr
Bhansali has extracted from me some of my most special performances. He’s
opened my eyes, expanded my universe, and given me wings to fly. He’s managed
to bring out that which I myself didn’t realise I had within me.”

The movie
was an adaptation of Romeo-Juliet and Ranveer can be seen playing the role of a
loud and flirtatious lover. The movie was the turning point in his career, and
one of the biggest hits of 2013.

A fearless Maratha leader in Bajirao Mastani

Another
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s classic historical drama that helped in strengthening Ranveer’s
position in the industry. He played the Maratha Peshwa Bajirao and went bald
for the role. That’s not all, he watched several Marathi films to get the
accent right and also learned to ride horses for the intense role. Even today,
he says that Bajirao was a “character that changed my life forever”.

A fierce
sultan in Padmaavat

‘Padmaavat’
marked the third collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ranveer in an
interview revealed that to understand the character better, he isolated himself
and lived as Alauddin Khilji. He shifted to an apartment close to the shooting
location to get some time alone to prepare for the intense role.

He gave it
all he could to nail the role. It is said that after he finished the shooting
of the movie, he had to seek a psychiatrist’s help to get the character out of
him.

Underground rapper in Gully Boy

Gully boy
took the Bollywood by storm when it released in early 2019. The movie managed
to impress the audience with its story of Murad, an aspiring Dharavi rapper.
The film opened up the world to the underground rap scene in Mumbai.

It took a
lot of detailing to get his look right for the not-so-glamorous role. He also
underwent a physical transformation to play Murad – a lean Gully Boy.

Iconic
character in 83

And now, in
his next film 83, directed by Kabir Khan, he is playing the role of the
legendary cricketer Kapil Dev. He looks uncannily similar to Kapil Dev. The
upcoming film is even more special as wife Deepika Padukone will be seen
playing Ranveer’s real-life better half.

We’re pretty
sure Ranveer will nail this role as well. Don’t you agree?
