Heather Armstrong, popular American blogger, died by suicide Tuesday night at her Salt Lake City home. She was 47.

Armstrong’s boyfriend Pete Ashdown told The Associated Press that she died by suicide. He said that the blogger, known as Dooce, had been sober for more than 18 months but recently had a relapse.

“She had a relapse recently and that’s what really spiraled her down. She was sober for over 18 months, then started to sneak back into it. And then in the last month, she went full tilt,” Ashdown told AP.

Salt Lake PD spokesperson said that officers responded to Heather’s home on Tuesday night to find her dead. Her cause of death has not been released yet.

Armstrong was married to business partner Jon Armstrong. She was the founder of Dooce.com and became one of the most popular mommy bloggers. She wrote about relationships, parenthood and other challenges.

Heather and Jon have two children – 19-year-old Leta and 13-year-old Marlo. The couple announced their divorce in 2012.

Pete Ashdown, her boyfriend, is a 56-year-old former Democratic candidate for the US Senate from Salt Lake City, Utah. He studied at the Salt Lake Community College and The University of Utah.

“Heather Brooke Hamilton aka Heather B. Armstrong aka dooce aka love of my life. July 19, 1975 – May 9, 2023. “It takes an ocean not to break.” Hold your loved ones close and love everyone else,” Heather’s family wrote on Instagram.

Her fans also consoled the blogger’s death.

“In the early 2000s, Heather Armstrong, aka dooce, was one of the first-ever hugely famous bloggers. She was a pioneer in envisioning how the digital world could be a place where everyone has a voice, could be influential, etc—ie: all the things we take for granted today,” a Twitter user said.

“It’s shocking to hear Heather Armstrong died yesterday. It’s hard to put into words just how influential she was to the blogosphere. I hope she is at peace, and that her children and loved ones are finding solace where they can,” a second one said
