After making a brief appearance as Superman at the conclusion of ‘Black Adam,’ Henry Cavill announced on October 24 that he would be playing the role again in a new Warner Bros.-DC film. In an Instagram post on October 24, Cavill announced, “A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded.”

Further, Cavill made his first public comments about playing Superman again on October 26, during a live podcast recording of Happy Sad Confused at 92NY in New York City. He said, “The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I never gave up hope. It’s amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”

Cavill got the call to shoot his Black Adam cameo while filming The Witcher

While filming his Netflix fantasy series “The Witcher,” Cavill claimed he received the call to shoot his “Black Adam” cameo. He needed permission from the production team to take a break from filming, but his Superman return was so top-secret that he could not reveal why he was asking for a break.

Cavill stated that he went to the Warner Bros. studio in the UK and changed back into a suit. “It was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn’t sure how I would feel…whether it would be something very emotionally connective because I put the ‘Man of Steel’ suit back on. I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit. It was important for me to be standing there and enjoying that moment,” he added.

Regarding the five years he spent waiting for the announcement that he would once more play Superman, Cavill said, “I told myself I’m going to let it sit and simmer in the background. I never lost hope, that was the key for me.” It is unclear when or where Cavill’s Superman will next appear on screen.

Prior to the release of “Black Adam,” Dwayne Johnson made a point of saying that he was adamant about making a film in which Black Adam and Superman square off. Although Cavill will probably get his own standalone Superman movie first, the “Black Adam” credits scene confirmed that a battle is coming.
