The death of one of Indian cinema’s finest choreographers, Saroj Khan, had left the industry heartbroken. Famously called ‘Masterji’ by her students and actors, Saroj earned a great of love of love and respect in the film fraternity. She was known, not only for her incredible work but also shared a close bond with actors like Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan during their initial days. 

Talking about the ‘parent-like’ nature of the late choreographer, SRK once revealed that he got slapped by her for complaining about work. In an old interview, SRK had said that during his initial days in the industry he was working three shifts in a day. He once told her that he was tired of all the work. She then slapped him lovingly and told him that he should never say that he has too much work.

On Saroj’s death, the actor took to social media to express his grief and remembered his bond with her. He wrote, “My first genuine teacher in the film industry. She taught me for hours how to do the ‘dip’ for film dancing. One of the most caring, loving & inspiring persona i have ever met. Will miss you Sarojji. May Allah bless her soul. Thank u for looking after me.”

The late choreographer died due to cardiac arrest at the age of 71. Her last rites of were performed at Malvani in Malad on July 3, 2020.
