Another brutal Game of Thrones wedding is hinted at in the teaser for the forthcoming episode 5 of House of the Dragon. House of the Dragon serves as a precursor to the popular HBO series Game of Thrones. It is based in part on the book Fire & Blood from George R.R. Martin‘s larger A Song of Ice and Fire universe.

The events of the new series, which is set about two centuries before those of the first, follow House Targaryen as it begins to fall, leading up to and covering the devastating Targaryen civil war known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”

As of now, House of the Dragon has been able to keep viewers interested. After the series’ 10 million-plus viewer launch, viewership for subsequent episodes increased steadily, leading to a rapid season 2 renewal. “King of the Narrow Sea,” this week’s episode, carried the intriguing storyline further. It presented a brand-new, unexpected love triangle including Ser Criston (Matt Smith), Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), and Daemon (Fabien Frankel).

When Lord Corlys (Steve Toussaint) learns of Rhaenyra and Daemon’s impending liaison, he becomes enraged and orders her to marry Ser Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan). Rhaenyra then demands that Viserys punish Otto (Rhys Ifans) for spying on her, and they eventually come to an understanding.

The trailer for “We Light the Way,” the fifth episode of Season 1 of House of the Dragon, has just been released on the Game of Thrones YouTube account. It foreshadows a heated argument before Rhaenyra and Laenor’s wedding. After their disagreement with Viserys over the marriage proposal, Lord Corlys and Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best) also return to King’s Landing, though it is obvious that they are more self-centered than ever.

Below is the trailer for episode 5 of House of the Dragon:

In the fifth episode of House of the Dragon, as the new clip makes clear, turmoil and anarchy are imminent. It’s difficult to say what might ruin the celebrations at the moment, but it’s likely that arguments about Viserys choosing Rhaenyra as his successor would start things off. It’s also possible that jealousy between the homes will cause problems during the wedding.

Given that House Velaryon was chosen by Viserys and Rhaenyra above the Lannisters and that the former has been promised a more important part in the upcoming episodes, it seems plausible that the Lannisters will incite the wedding guests to disrupt Rhaenyra and Laenor’s nuptials.

There will undoubtedly be fighting at the impending event, but those anticipating a carnage comparable to Game of Thrones’ Red Wedding shouldn’t get too giddy because the fighting appears to be far more unplanned and won’t necessarily result in a massacre.

Overall, it appears that the stakes in Episode 5 of House of the Dragon will be significantly higher than those previously witnessed. The succession drama continues to escalate without slowing down, and Otto’s expulsion from the Small Council appears to be the catalyst for the much-anticipated rivalry between Rhaenyra and Alicent (Emily Carey).

The extent to which Criston’s insecurities over Rhaenyra’s marriage to another man are manifesting themselves elsewhere are only revealed in later episodes. In the meantime, he is expressing his fury in harsh ways.

Finally, it’s impossible to predict whether Rhaenyra and Laenor’s wedding will actually go place given the strife surrounding the celebrations. In fact, based on the teaser, it appears that House Velaryon is not entirely sold on the union, and even Laenor’s life appears to be in jeopardy. However, viewers will have to wait until Sunday’s premiere of episode 5 of House of the Dragon to find out exactly what happens.
