Game of Thrones spinoff series, House of the Dragon, has been renewed by HBO for a second season after it managed to set the record for the biggest debut in HBO history in terms of viewership. 10 million viewers had tuned in for the show’s debut. Since then it has been watched by a total of 20 million viewers across all platforms.

The story of the series is set 200 years before Game of Thrones and revolves around House Targaryen, the family to which the characters Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow belonged. The Targaryens are white-haired and possess the ability to communicate with dragons. Their family history has its own share of blood, gore, and incest.

Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president, has stated her excitement regarding the huge success of the spinoff show. She said that HBO is “beyond proud” with what House of the Dragon has been able to achieve in season one. Orsi added, “Our phenomenal cast and crew undertook a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see-TV.”

Notably, House of the Dragon is not the only Game of Thrones spinoff that has been in the works. A total of seven such spinoffs have been planned by HBO. Reports suggest that at least three such shows will be animated while one will follow the life of Jon Snow after the events of Game of Thrones.
