JayDaYoungan, a 24-year-old American rapper, was shot dead  Wednesday, the Bogalusa police have confirmed. News of the rapper’s death first emerged on various US-based entertainment websites and sent social media into a frenzy. Official confirmation on JayDaYoungan’s death came around 11 pm. 

Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana in 1998, began his rap career at the age of 18 and dropped out of high school. His first album Ruffwayy became an immediate success. The song Interstate broke 4 million views on YouTube. JayDaYoungan’s next project was titled The Real Jumpman 23, which had 13 tracks making a total of 32 minutes. The album contained songs such as Sliding Freestyle and Muddy Situation.

JayDaYoungan’s first major hit came with the song Elimination. This is part of the mixtape titled 23 which has over 19 million streams on Spotify. The rapper’s next big album was Forever 23, which featured songs such as Thot Thot and Purge. Thot Thot garnered 18.1 million streams on Spotify and Purge saw 10 million. 

This was JayDaYoungan’s first entry into the US Billboard 200. It was ranked 86. The rapper also made it to the 37th spot on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. JayDaYoungan’s next project was titled Endless Pain. This came with the songs Repo and War Ready. 

The rapper used to say that his music was influenced by the likes of Chief Keef, Kevin Gates and Boosie Badazz. Fans of JayDaYoungan’s music have compared him to Boosie Badazz and Youngboy Never Broke Again. He, however, said “[I] don’t see me sounding similar to nobody else.” 

On Wednesday, as reports of the young rapper’s death surfaced, Bogalusa police put out a Facebook post that read: 

On Wednesday, July 27th, 2022 at 5:50 pm the Bogalusa Police Department received a call of a shooting in the 600 block of Superior Avenue. Officers responded and found that one victim had been transported by POV to Our Lady of the Angels Emergency Room. Another victim, still on scene, was critically wounded and was treated on scene by EMS, then transported to OLA ER. Their condition cannot be released at this time.

While working a chaotic scene at the hospital, and working the crime scene on Superior Avenue, another shooting took place in the 800 block of Marshall Richardson Road shortly after 7:00 pm. In that case a vehicle was shot, possibly related to the first shooting. The occupants were not hit. Detectives are also actively working that crime scene.

This is a very fluid situation and the information we can release is limited at this time. Our Officers are working diligently to identify the subjects responsible for these crimes. We have several outside agencies assisting at this time.
