Chadwick Boseman, the renowned actor known for his role in Marvel’s Black Panther, got a building named after himself in Howard University a year after his death.

Boseman, who succumbed to colon cancer at the age of 43, got his name engraved at the top of the fine arts building in Howard college, his alma mater.

Boseman completed his education at Howard University nearly 20 years ago from the College of Fine Arts. However, the educational institution decided to transform it to the College of Arts and Sciences, which was protested by multiple students, including Boseman, according to reports from CNN.

About three years ago, Howard University said it would roll back its decision and reestablish the school.

Wayne A. I. Frederick, the President of Howard University, earlier this year said in a statement, “Chadwick’s love for Howard University was sincere, and although he did not live to see those plans through to fruition, it is my honor to ensure his legacy lives on through the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts”.

In a tweet recently put up by the University, which also features a montage of the sign being put up, shows the entrance of the rebranded institution.

The tweet read, “Yesterday, the letters were installed over the now official Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts. An icon in his own right who has left an immeasurable legacy for the next generation. Thank you, Mr. Boseman.”

The renaming of the college got a positive reaction from the late actor’s family. The family said in a statement, “Chad fought to preserve the College of Fine Arts during his matriculation at Howard and remained dedicated to the fight throughout his career, and he would be overjoyed by this development”, according to reports from CNN.

The statement added, “His time at Howard University helped shape both the man and the artist that he became, committed to truth, integrity, and a determination to transform the world through the power of storytelling.”
