Actor Hrithik Roshan recently took to Twitter to laud Ayushmann Khurrana and Vani Kapoor for their latest release, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, a romantic comedy with a plot twist on transgenderism. Released this Friday, the film has gained mixed reactions from viewers and critics, with some applauding the progressive piece of work it is, to some calling it out for its typical trans stereotyping.
On the brighter side, the ‘Krissh’ star said that the movie made him cry and laugh. He extended his appreciation to Ayushmann Khurrana, saying that Khurrana’s heart, goodness and sense of commercial entertainment was clearly visible in the film.
He also praised Vani Kapoor, who played Maanvi Brar, a Zumba teacher who later reveals her stigmatized gender identity. He further referred to Kapoor as the heart and soul of the movie.
Hrithik described Khurrana as one of the finest actors in the industry and thanked him for inspiring him.
He also took to Instagram to urge his fans to watch the film in theatres, calling it one of the finest movies he had ever seen.

‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ is the most recent instalment to Ayushmann Khurrana’s socially progressive list of films. He has worked on movies that focus on normalising stigmatised social issues such as sperm donation, erectile dysfunction, homosexuality, late 40s pregnancies and baldness in middle aged men. His eccentric roles in films such as ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’, ‘Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan’, ‘Badhaai Ho’, and ‘Bala’ have garnered him lots of praise and attention from an Indian audience that is slowly but surely progressing.
