Actors Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are seldom in agreement, and the two are known for their off-screen banter. However, they have seemingly found common ground on the Twitter thread of Logan director James Mangold

The 58-year-old filmmaker whose 2017 movie marked the death of Logan and signalled Jackman’s exit from the role, reacted to the news with a gif showing how he killed the character.

He followed it up with a comment, saying, “Oh my gosh! Everybody chill. Just kidding! I’m all good! LOGAN will always be there. Multiverse or prequel, time warp or worm hole, canon or non-canon or even without a rationale”, and added he could not wait to see the madness Reynolds and Jackman had in store.

The 45-year-old Canadian-American actor replied to this by calling Mangold the GOAT, or “greatest of all time”. Jackman responded too, noting that he could not believe he was agreeing with Reynolds, who the Australian said is “right” in this case. The Wolverine actor then acknowledged that Mangold is the GOAT.

Mangold’s movie, which many agree is the best farewell possible to Jackman’s character, received critical and commercial acclaim. It was nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay at the 90th Academy Awards, becoming the first live-action superhero movie to be nominated for screenwriting.

At the time, Jackman had said that things had run their course with the character, and had hinted at his age as a factor in discontinuing playing a part where a buffed-up physical appearance is a constant demand. However, in 2021, Jackman dropped a hint about a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will be actualized in Deadpool 3. Reynolds made the introduction in a teaser that makes a play on the Wolverine actor’s name, saying there’s “Hughe” news, and says the next instalment of the merc-with-a-mouth’s movies is coming “Hughn”.
